The Envirogel® desiccant is the latest alternative to blue (cobalt chloride) indicating silica gel. It is an orange/yellow colour when active and changes to green when saturated. Envirogel® is capable of adsorbing up to approximately 30% of its own weight of water from the surrounding atmosphere at 50% RH and 25°C. It is produced in beaded form and has a high dust attrition resistance. The uniform bead size reduces gas flow channelling and minimizes pressure drop. A major reason to replace cobalt chloride desiccant with Envirogel® is that it is environmentally friendly and is non hazardous for personnel that handle it.
Kaycom stocks Envirogel® in Canada and packages it in accordance with customer requirements for organizations such as BC Hydro, Hydro Quebec and many others.
